The Tower and The Medieval Executioner’s Axe
Thursday, November 5, 2009

Originally serving as a fortification, the Tower of London was originally completed in 1067 by William the Conqueror. During the 12th century more towers were added to create quite a forbidding complex. And, its usage had also changed.
The Tower of London was used for a time as a prison and execution site for the upper class prisoners. Some of the more known individuals to pass through here to meet the medieval executioner’s axe were Lady Jane Grey and Henry VIII’s wife, Anne Boleyn.
