Viking swordsFor the last several years the Minnesota Vikings have been associated with mediocrity in the NFL, but they have experienced resurgence this year thanks in large part to some new talent. Last year’s first round draft pick Adrian Peterson and the acquisition of veteran quarterback Brett Favre has equated to a drastic increase in the team’s record. This has correlated to increased TV time.

The past several weeks I have viewed Vikings games, and their fans appear to be stirred by the team’s success and eager to show their support. There are always several fans clad in full Viking garb, many even wielding authentic Viking swords. Although I am not a Vikings fan, it is exciting to see a revival of one of the league’s oldest teams.

If you have become more interested in learning about throwing knives, you should first find out more about the knives themselves. The higher quality knives used for throwing, have no real handle; that is they are usually all one blade (full tang) with a flat blade handle.

When throwing specialty throwing knives, the spin of the knife is determined by the balance of the knife. A balanced knife allows you to throw by the handle, or by the blade.

The butterfly knife is very unique. It originated in the Philippines and has a very distinctive design to it. The knife has two handles that rotate around the blade.

For those who become proficient with butterfly knives, when opening and closing the knife, it can look like a beautiful motion. It is referred to as “flipping” and can seem like a blur of swirling knives.

Butterfly knives are not legal to carry in many states, so check it out, but you can add one to your collection at home.

KukriKnives910908Kukri1A Kukri knife has a curved blade and is wider towards the tip of the blade. The blades are sharp enough and the strength and thickness of the blades are thick enough to be used like a machete.

The Kukri knives are weighted towards the tip of the knife to provide some additional power and force when using it to chop small brush or trees. A Kukri type knife or a hunting knife can be a very good thing when in the outdoors.
